KWQC.com reports that two people died Wednesday when a truck’s load fell on their vehicle.
The accident happened last night around 7:14 PM. It occurred at the overpass of Lincoln Park Drive and US-34.
Authorities say as a Ford F750 truck was traveling westbound on US-34, the equipment it was hauling hit the bottom of the underpass, causing the load to fall off the truck’s trailer.
A car behind the Ford couldn’t avoid the falling equipment. The car’s driver and passenger were both killed.
The truck driver was released from the scene, not needing further medical assistance.
Multiple agencies responded, including the Galesburg Police Department, Galesburg Fire Department, Knox County Coroner, and the Illinois DOT, Illinois State Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit. The accident remains under investigation.
