KFVS12.com is reporting on a fatality and injuries that occurred Wednesday evening from a three vehicle wreck at a rest area in Jefferson County.
According to the Illinois State Police, the crash happened on Interstate 64 in the westbound direction at the Goshen Road Rest Area at milepost 86. The time was approximately 6:20 PM.
As the ISP relates, the first vehicle drove off I-64 and into the rest area. For reasons not known at this time, the vehicle kept going into the rest area and failed to stop. As a result, the vehicle crashed into a tree and then continued moving until it hit a parked vehicle driven by 62 year old St. Louis resident Roosevelt Brown.
Brown’s vehicle was then rammed into a third vehicle driven by David Smith, 48 of El Paso, Texas. Smith, too, was parked.
The unnamed first vehicle’s driver was killed. Brown suffered injuries and was received by a local hospital. Authorities say Smith was not injured.
This is an update. According to news sources, all three vehicles were semi-trucks.
