TribStar.com is reporting on the death of Rodney Stephens, 38, of West York, at the hands of a wrong way driver.
The accident occurred at approximately 4:45 AM on Thursday morning. The exact location was on US 50, about one mile east of Illinois 1 in Lawrence County.
According to the Illinois State Police, a Jeep Wrangler driven by Bridgeport resident Alicia Stephens, 22, was proceeding west on US 50 when she crossed the center line, coming into the path of Stephens’ pickup which was headed in the opposite direction.
The resulting crash killed Stephens immediately.
Despite the similarity in last names, it does not appear the two are related.
The ISP says Alicia Stephens will face charges of improperly using a lane, driving under the influence of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, and no insurance. She was hospitalized but her condition is unknown at this time.
