The XRadio is reporting that one person died and three others were hurt as the result of a chain-collision Wednesday afternoon that involved six vehicles. The accident happened on Interstate 70 outside of Vandalia.
The Illinois State Police state that 42-year-old Robert A. Todoran of Hammond, Louisiana, was the person killed in the massive wreck. He was a semi-truck driver who apparently failed to reduce speed to avoid a car that was stopped in front of him. That car was driven by 27-year-old Jon Wingo of Springfield, the resulting collision causing the chain reaction accident to happen.
Todoran was pronounced dead at the scene. Wingo suffered injuries as did his two passengers, a 14-year-old girl and 51-year-old Rachael Wingo, residents of Brownstown. All three were received by Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Four semis were damaged in the chain-reaction crash. The accident investigation remains open.
