According to WGEM, three people were hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after a multiple vehicle crash that occurred on US 54 Near 273d Lane in Pike County. The accident happened north of Pittsfield. The time of the accident was approximately 2:40 PM.
The Illinois State Police reports that Manchester resident Roger L. Daniels, 40, ran into the back of a Jeep on US 54 near 273rd Lane. That caused the Jeep, driven by Pittsfield resident Richard Teaney, 73, to go out of control, hitting the front of an oncoming car, driven by Jerry Orr, 54, or Perry, Illinois.
The Jeep wound up hitting an embankment and all three motorists incurred minor to moderate injuries in this chain-reaction car crash.
Daniels was received by Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, but was later transported to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. Teaney and Orr were airlifted to Saint Johns Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
Roger Daniels was ticketed by the ISP for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Additional charges may be possible against Daniels pending further investigation. Richard Teaney was also cited for operating an uninsured vehicle.
