One person was killed and two others were seriously injured as the result of a wreck involving three big rigs. The Joliet Patch reports that the accident occurred on I-80 at approximately 6:00 AM in the eastbound direction near Larkin Avenue in Joliet.
The Illinois State Police, in a preliminary finding, state that the accident began when one FedEx truck stopped to help another. Sami Guzick, 50, of Joliet, was on the outside of her FedEx semi-truck when another big rig plowed into her truck and then struck her, killing her.
The driver of the errant semi-truck, Douglass Norfleet, 46, of Chicago, suffered severe burns and was transported to a local hospital.
The driver of the truck that originally broke down, was driven by Jugoslav Djordjevic, 49, of LaGrange. He, too, was seriously hurt and is undergoing treatment.
The accident investigation continues.
