The Chicago Tribune is reporting on the death of two sisters that were in a car wreck that happened with a Cook County sheriff’s office squad car in Niles.
The accident occurred at Dempster Street and Harlem Avenue at approximately 6:00 AM on Thursday morning.
In a news released issued by the Niles Police Department, the sisters were proceeding south on Harlem in a Honda Accord. The sedan went into the intersection and was hit on the passenger side by the Cook County sheriff’s squad car, which was traveling eastbound on Dempster.
The dead are identified as 69 year old Norridge resident Ludwika Moskal, the Honda driver, and her sister, 64 year old Chicago resident Helena Lukasik.
The two women were received by Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. At that facility they were declared as deceased. The driver of the squad car, a 47-year-old male sheriff’s department officer whose identity has yet to be released, was also transported to Lutheran General. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The press release stated that the accident was still under investigation but that weather may have played a role in the accident. The officer is believed to have been on duty at the time of the wreck but no further details have yet been released.
