The RantoulPress.com reports from Wellington that Glenn Kolzow, a 75 year old Lafayette, Indiana man, died as the result of his vehicle being rear-ended by a semi-truck.
The crash involved a total of four-vehicles on Tuesday morning on Illinois 1 in Iroquois County. The crash injured three other people as well.
the Illinois State Police are quoted as saying that Kolzow was proceeding in a station wagon northbound at approximately 11:09 a.m. when he stopped at County Road 500 N and Illinois 1 to wait for oncoming traffic to clear. He was trying to turn left.
At this time his vehicle was in front of a semitrailer driven by Midlothian resident Kenneth R. Swanson, 53.
Concurrent with this event, Seth T. Moody, 29, of Danville and a minivan driven by David K.Y. Chin, 42, of Urbana were headed south on Illinois 1, approaching the same intersection.
The ISP said the semi-truck failed to stop for traffic and subsequently collided with Kolzow’s vehicle, which swerved into oncoming traffic and struck both the oncoming car and the minivan.
Mr. Kolzow was received by a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Minor injuries were sustained by Chin and his passenger, Rantoul resident Stephen J. Robbins, 70. It is unknown if Moody was injured.
Swanson was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
