The Chicago Sun Times is reporting on the death of 16 year old Francesca Athanasopoulos, involved in a car crash on Tuesday night in south Beecher.
The Will County Sheriff’s Office stated that Francesca was being driven home by a 17 year old boy in his Ford Ranger pickup at approximately 4:445 PM. While waiting to turn into her driveway in the 1900 block of West Indiana, a Ford Fusion appeared from behind, driven at a high rate of speed. The Fusion hit the pickup, pushing it into traffic. At this point, the Ranger collided with a Dodge Ram proceeding east on Indiana.
Athanasopoulos was received at a hospital in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced as deceased later in the evening. Her boyfriend, still unidentified, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening wounds. The two other drivers refused medical attention.
The driver of the Fusion, unidentified at this time, is a 36 year old Kankakee resident. He was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
