The News-Gazette.com is reporting from Hoopeston that two people are dead as the result of a head on crash that took place in northern Vermilion County early Wednesday evening at approximately 6:30 PM.
According to authorities, the accident occurred on Illinois 1 between Rossville and Hoopeston. This is close to 3870 North Road.
A preliminary investigation by law enforcement states that Hoopeston resident Warren W. Harms, 52, was trying to pass a vehicle in his pickup when he collided with a minivan coming the other way. That vehicle was being driven by Denise L. Ried, 59, of Wellington.
Wellington was pronounced dead at 8:26 PM Wednesday at Carle Foundation Hospital, according to Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup.
Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadde says that Harms died at the scene.
The ISP and both coroners’ offices continue the work of investigating this head-on crash.
