WSILTV.com is reporting that a multiple vehicle wreck in Williamson County Sunday morning left many people injured. The accident involved three vehicles, including a semi-truck.
The accident occurred close to Mile Marker 53 on I-57. The accident forced the closure of the roadway for several hours.
The Illinois State Police stated in a press release that a Nissan Rogue was proceeding north on I-57 in the center lane. The Nissan suddenly veered out of its lane, causing a Peterbilt semi-truck to hit the rear of the Nissan.
The force of the collision was enough to cause the the semi to overturn on its side, which then blocked all three northbound lanes.
A 2015 Ford Van, going northbound at the same time, ran into the trailer of the semi-truck as it was unable to stop before hitting the trailer.
Nashville resident, 31-year-old Ahmed Kulu, the driver of the Nissan was charged with Improper Lane Usage. He was uninjured as was the driver of the semi-truck.
There were nine individuals in the Ford van. They were taken to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries. Three were minors. The driver of the Ford van, David Connor, 57, of Camp Douglas, WI, is now in a hospital with major injuries.
The following is a list of passengers in the van. They are all listed as suffering minor injuries:
