The Gazette-Democrat is reporting that three people are dead in a single vehicle accident that happened Wednesday morning in rural Union County. Another individual was injured.
The Illinois State Police say the accident occurred at 2375 Shiloh Road, east of Coben.
Killed was Herrin resident Cassandra Payne, 28, the driver of the vehicle. Also dead is Belleville resident Derrell Smith, 28, and an unidentified female victim, a toddler of 1 1/2 years. The other passenger was not identified. That person was taken by helicopter to a hospital.
The ISP say the car Payne was driving ran off the road, across a ditch, and then on to strike a tree.
We will have more information on this as it becomes available.
