TheXRadio.com is reporting on a crash that involved a semi-truck running into the back of a car on Interstate 57 near Edgewood in Effingham County.

The accident happened at approximately 4:10 AM on Sunday morning.

According to the Illinois State Police, Jefferson, Arkansas resident Angelia Obasad, 28, was proceeding northbound on I-57 one mile north of Edgewood at the time the accident occurred. She was reportedly driving slowly. An Ekland, Missouri resident, Rocky D. Rash, 55, was driving a semi-truck behind Obasad at the same time. Rash failed to slow in time to avoid hitting Obasad’s vehicle.

All five children with Obasad were hurt. One of the children was taken by air to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. Obasad and the four others were taken by ambulance and received by St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham.

Rash, the truck driver, was not hurt but the ISP cited him with failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Abasad was charged with driving with a suspended license, violating the minimum speed requirements, and failing to properly secure a child under eight.
